German police arrested a 27-year-old man after a 31-year-old British woman suffered fatal stab wounds at Rosenheim railway station in the early hours of Sunday.

Emergency services took the woman to hospital, where she later died. The suspect, a German national, was detained at the scene. Investigators said the motive and the sequence of events leading to the attack remained unclear.

Police appealed for anyone who saw an argument or physical confrontation at the station shortly before 1am local time to contact them. Officers did not confirm whether the victim and suspect knew each other or whether the incident had any connection with the Rosenheim Autumn Festival, a 16-day event that attracts more than one million visitors. Rosenheim is a major Upper Bavaria transport hub for routes toward Austrian destinations including Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vienna.
